The Last Nuclear Bomb Memorial

Professor George Newlands

Our project is in the Runit island of the Enewetak atoll. This is a site of radioactive waste left after a series of 67 nuclear tests. Aside from the site’s radioactivity, global warming and the rising sea level are also affecting the marine life on site and bleaching coral reefs. The island does not allow for full inhabitation; hence we are proposing a memorial that allows visitors to come and relive the remnants of the blasts through diving without risking their safety setting foot on the island itself, as well as introducing artificial coral reef beds to heal the island.
